Today’s poem “Storm” by H.D. is in the public domain.
Storm by H.D.
You crash over the trees, you crack the live branch— the branch is white, the green crushed, each leaf is rent like split wood. You burden the trees with black drops, you swirl and crash— you have broken off a weighted leaf in the wind, it is hurled out, whirls up and sinks, a green stone.
Prompts:
1. Begin with “you have broken off…” 2. Begin with “You burden…” 3. Draft a poem that describes a natural event. 4. Draft a poem that is written from the 2nd person perspective, addressing a “you”. To learn more about point-of-view, click here.
