#204 by Emily Dickinson
A slash of Blue—
A sweep of Gray—
Some scarlet patches on the way,
Compose an Evening Sky—
A little purple—slipped between—
Some Ruby Trousers hurried on—
A Wave of Gold—
A Bank of Day—
This just makes out the Morning Sky.
Prompts:
1. Begin with “A slash of…” 2. Begin with “Compose an evening…” 3. Create a riddle, describing an object or event with only colors. 4. Synesthesia is a literary device when one sense is defined as another. Imagine: what does blue taste like? What does gray sound like? What is the fragrance of scarlet? Write a draft in which colors have a taste, texture, aroma, or sound. 5. Draft a 9-line poem that describes an event.
