Welcome to the Poetry Stash, 2025 edition
A collection of poems and quotes newly-found or re-discovered to read and save in your own commonplace journal. A source for inspiration and the generation of writing prompts.
A new year, a time to review the question: Why a newsletter?
Each day, I take the time to read a poem. Sometimes it’s one I’ve never encountered. Othertimes, it’s a favorite, one I’ve returned to again and again. Either way, there’s something there in those words that brings me to the page to copy it into my commonplace notebook, a journal in which you collect writings/images/whatevers created by other people. After sharing many of these poems with family, friends and other writers, I decided I wanted to share these commonplace entries with a larger community. These findings create connection. They are souvenirs from places you may never have visited. They are voices, familiar and not. Each poem is also a source for inspiration and generating your own writing.
This year I will be posting two to three times a week, and continue providing a list of writing prompts (or topics) drawn from the post.
Recommendations from the PoetryStash community are also very welcome. If you or someone whose work you admire has a collection or a single poem that you would like featured in the newsletter, please feel free to contact me.
The content in this Substack is free. As a writer who doesn’t earn a living wage from her poems and has always worked in non-writing jobs for income, I simply want to share the beauty of what I discover on the page or in my ear each day. Substack does have a paid subscription option, which if you choose, I will be extremely grateful for your support.
